Time and time again my pastor talks about the flaws of churches, one of them having a big church. Sometimes there's so many people that it's hard to reach out to most of them. There are people who just go and don't actually grow in faith and in love. This problem can't be solved with big churches (but there's always prayer). I'm getting used to being a part of a small close-knit church but a lot of the times i wish we had more people attending.
Everyone should know the reason why we go to church, right? It should be for God. Sure, people would like to say that because that's the right answer but in their hearts it may not be the case. Some probably go to a certain church because their friends go there or maybe because they're the same ethnicity (e.g. korean church, filipino church, chinese church, etc). The worse case would be if you go for the food. hopefully not a lot of people are like that. There are some that I know that exclude those who are in trouble financially and emotionally (and they're ane not even aware of it!). We as christians are suppose to evangelize and reach out to those who really need Jesus. I struggle with that a lot, so don't think im criticizing or condemning anyone. I kind of fall under that category. This is just a reminder that God is first, church is second (well, friends and family is part of church).
I'm not encouraging people to leave their church or anything like that. I'm just saying to fix it. Pray to God for your church. it might not happen overnight but you should at least not be stagnant or mediocre in your walk with God. that's what the bible is for.
it's not: you love God because you go to church
it should be you go to church because you love God
